Nursing mothers and children were among eight people trapped after a building collapsed in Ilorin, Kwara State capital, on Tuesday morning, leaving four people dead.

The spokesperson of the Kwara State Fire Service, Hassan Adekunle, confirmed the casualties, saying three of the trapped victims were successfully rescued while another remained in critical condition.

According to Adekunle, the critically injured victim was rushed to a government hospital for urgent medical attention.

The building collapsed at about 5:30 a.m. in the PopoGiwa, Madalasi Zhogoro area, off Sijikobi Road, in Ilorin West Local Government Area of the state.

Eight people were initially trapped inside the building following the early-morning collapse, prompting emergency responders to launch rescue operations at the scene.

Adekunle said four of the eight trapped victims had died, while efforts were made to rescue the remaining occupants.

The incident has raised fresh concerns over building safety in the state, although authorities have yet to disclose the cause of the collapse.
